Executive Director of SCRAP

SCRAP is a nonprofit based in San Francisco dedicated to the fact that one man's trash is another man's treasure. SCRAP redistributes 250 tons of donated arts and crafts supplies to over 40,000 artists, teachers, nonprofits and community members. SCRAP's creative reuse educational programming includes workshops, field trips, outreach at various community events, teacher material giveaways, corporate volunteer programs, vocational volunteer programs and more.

As the Executive Director of SCRAP, I was responsible for every aspect of the organization. I performed tasks ranging from tracking daily finances to Board guidance and Strategic Planning. I oversaw the management of around 20 staff and contractors as well as thousands of volunteers. A typical week will encompass HR/staff management, retail layout and sales planning, marketing and outreach, program coordination, social media content generation, grant applications, networking with stakeholders, communicating with teachers and customers, working with volunteers, reaching out to potential partners, coordinating events, and much more.

Some of the accomplishments of SCRAP while I led the organization include:

  • Increased income from $284,000 to $505,000 in just two years

  • Increased program income five fold

  • Increased financial donations five fold

  • Increased number of total participants from 25,000 to 60,000

  • Created strategic partnerships with hundreds of individuals, organizations and community events

  • Increase in publicity: SCRAP appeared in radio, videos, TV, newspapers and blogs. Highlights include NBC, CBS, KQED, and Plugged In on Yahoo Video.
